Today was my first day back at work for the new year and it actually ended up worse than most of the days in the old year in one certain way - call volume.

In my job, I answer the phone quite a bit. It's not like a pure customer service or call center job as I have mostly set clients but there are the occasional strangers who call in requesting things like certificates for classes they took 20 years ago and questions on scheduling re-exams.

And today obviously everyone was more chipper and ready to start the year than I was because I walked in to 15 messages and then got almost 10 more today.

To the left and right of my phone is my wonderful balanced lunch (thank goodness there's a Starbuck's in the building). For a good laugh, check out the time the photo was taken - 2:45 p.m. - that's what time I finally got to eat for 15 minutes after being at work since 8:30 a.m.

That's why the photo is in black & white. It really was that melancholy today. And January is supposed to be the slow time.
